Providence Photonics, LLC, Receives Commercial License from ExxonMobil

IntelliRed ™ Remote Gas Detection System Designed to Improve Process Safety & Environmental Performance

BATON ROUGE, Louisiana – May 1, 2014 – Providence Photonics, an affiliate of Providence, has been awarded a commercial license for its co-developer role with ExxonMobil, the largest publically-traded international oil and gas company, on the innovative IntelliRed™ gas leak detection system.  IntelliRed™ is a unique technology utilizing Infrared (IR) optical gas imagers and advanced computer vision algorithms to enable remote autonomous hydrocarbon leak detection and notification. This innovative, high-tech system provides early warnings of hydrocarbon gas leaks for prompt mitigation of safety hazards and environmental impacts. Providence Photonics is now licensed to offer the technology worldwide for process safety and environmental applications.

This product provides continuous surveillance for hydrocarbon leaks at distances of 1,500 feet or more. Customizable optics can extend the reach of the optical gas imager and greatly enhance detection limits. User-adjustable sensitivity settings and a variety of alarming options allow for easy integration into existing security or process control networks at oil refineries, chemical plants, liquefied natural gas (LNG) facilities, and other gas processing facilities. Photonics and ExxonMobil co-developed the IntelliRed™ system over a four-year period culminating in field tests of the system that began last year at an LNG liquefaction plant in Qatar.

“Through this collaboration, we were impressed with ExxonMobil’s commitment to process safety and the environment as well as its willingness to share this unique process safety and environmental technology globally,” said Yousheng Zeng, Ph.D., P.E., CEO of Providence Photonics. “IntelliRed™ is our first commercial product in the area of optical gas imaging. We have several products in the development pipeline.”

Providence prides itself on providing turn-key solutions to a wide range of environmental problems. This licensed technology allows Providence to provide yet another margin of excellence in services and support to clients. The addition of this product line to Providence’s current environmental, engineering, planning, disaster recovery, staffing, surveying, architecture, support services, and, most recently, air quality modeling software, propels Providence into the forefront of engineering, technology, and environmental services.
