Providence Hosts Pinewood Derby for Local Cub Scouts Troop

Providence's Baton Rouge office was the site location for a local Cub Scout Troop's Pinewood Derby on Saturday, February 28th.  The annual wood car racing event is a tradition in the Boy Scouts of America that dates to the 1950’s. Among the core values of the Boy Scouts are STEM initiatives, environmental conservation, and community involvement, and seeing how Providence reveres these same values, we were more than happy to allow the local troop to host their derby at the Baton Rouge office. The Cub Scouts raced hand-made wooden cars and a select few were named winners. The Scouts also painted recycling bins to add a little flair to the office, and to encourage everyone to reduce and reuse. Despite COVID restrictions bringing a halt to many activities all over the world, the event was a great success and broadened Providence's community participation.
