Services provided: Surveying, Permitting, and Engineering Design
Location: Ascension Parish, LA
Completion date: January 2024
Client: T.T. Barge
T. T. Barge is upgrading the access and expanding the footprint to the existing Mile 183 facility. The upgrades and expansion will include additional ramps over the Mississippi River levee, the clearing of two parcels of property upriver from the existing facility for materials receiving, expanding of the current utilities (electricity and water) to the new property, constructing elevated ramps and walkways in the batture area, and installing mooring devices for barges at the upriver property location. Providence provided all necessary surveying tasks, the geotechnical boring investigation and reporting services, all civil design services, the utility engineering, required LA DOTD permitting and regulatory compliance assistance, and overall project management.
In order to successfully complete the required permitting and design services, the Providence survey team mobilized and conducted a detailed topographic survey of the proposed levee crossing locations, batture area of the upriver property, and a hydrographic survey of the Mississippi River. The topographic and hydrographic surveys were then used to perform a slope stability analysis. Cross sections were surveyed to originate at the protected side of the levee and extended to the center of the Mississippi River and aerial LIDAR was used to locate docks, vessel, barges, and other assets on the Mississippi River and incorporated into the surveys.
