Environmental Featured Project

This project consists of the construction of approximately 620 acres of new marsh and the nourishment of approximately 400 acres of marsh on the Big Branch National Wildlife Refuge in southern St. Tammany Parish. Over time, wave induced erosion has breached the southern rim of the fragile marsh along the northern edge of Lake Pontchartrain. This project will re-establish the southern rim of the fragile freshwater marsh along Lake Pontchartrain by constructing over 57,000 linear feet of earthen containment dikes and hydraulically dredging approximately 3,500,000 cubic yards of sediment from Lake Pontchartrain. Providence is responsible for the construction engineering and inspection services for the construction of this marsh creation project.
