Providence Air Quality Specialist / Transportation Engineer to Present at STAQS

Providence Air Quality Specialist / Transportation Engineer, Madhu Venugopal, PE, will present on the transition, needs, results and recommendations for the Motor Vehicle Emission Simulator (MOVES) 2014 Model at the Southern Transportation & Air Quality Summit (STAQS) on August 12-13.

The US EPA recently released an update to the on-road emissions model, MOVES2014, and the presentation will provide an overview of the changes. Updates to be discussed include development of local inputs that are crucial for the development of emission inventories. These inputs include: age, distribution, meteorology, fuel, alternative vehicle fuel technology (AVFT), inspection/maintenance (IM) programs, and source type population. A comparative analysis identifying the changes in activity and emissions with different modeling scenarios such as inventory vs. rate, and daily and annual vehicle miles traveled (VMT) inputs will also be presented. Lastly, Venugopal will provide recommendations on procedures and tools that can be utilized by Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPO) to ease the development of on-road emission inventories and ease the transition from previous MOVES versions.

The summit will be held in Atlanta, GA on August 12-13 at the Georgia Department of Transportation office.
