Comprehensive Particulate Matter Measurement System (CPMMS)
The CPMMS is a patent pending system that can be used to measure particulate matter (PM) in the air more accurately than other PM samplers. Every single CPMMS run can generate PM measurement results per unlimited number of PM definitions, including PM10, PM2.5, PM1, and various dosimetry-based PM metrics. The figure below illustrates the principle of the CPMMS.

The advantages of the CPMMS include:
- CPMMS results in substantially higher accuracy, especially for PM2.5, when used to measure ambient samples with large variations in particle size distributions and concentrations.
- The monitoring results can be used to derive PM metrics that are expected to correlate to epidemiological data better than existing PM monitoring data. Such PM metrics are referred to as “dosimetry-based PM metrics.”
- CPMMS generates valid PM monitoring data even when PM regulatory definition is changed in the future, providing continuity to PM monitoring programs and related health studies. PM samplers in monitoring networks do not need to be redesigned and replaced when the PM definition is changed.
